Psychic since childhood, Toney comes from a long generational line of gifted seers. His first solid memory of his own abilities occurred when he was nine, a rambunctious boy practicing his karate kicks, disrupting the headstones in the local cemetery. Like a scene out of a Tim Burton movie, that very night he was awakened by the spirits of the occupants of those disturbed graves. They stood at the foot of his bed, delivering steely stares to the terrified boy. They didn’t need to speak for him to feel their displeasure.
“This was my first real lesson in being courteous to those on the other side,” he explains, “which serves me well in my work. When I’m acting as a medium for a client, I’m as respectful as can be of the residents of both sides of the veil.”
Toney’s gifts are many—clairvoyance, clairsentience, clairaudience, mediumship, psychometry, et al—he oftentimes gets information for a client before they even sit down with him. He closes his eyes and allows information to come through. During a reading, he feels into the client’s energy field and steps into it. Then he tells them why they’re there, what could happen, and then shows them what he’s seeing through the use of Tarot cards.
His psychic mother kept Tarot decks in the house, so they’ve always been a part of his life and reading them comes naturally to him. “I don’t need the cards,” Toney explains, “but they’re beneficial for others so they can see the information. They help to illustrate the story.”
He wasn’t always a medium, though. That gift appeared after he began offering psychic readings professionally and stretching his abilities through so much practice. He noticed that, occasionally, he would feel a buzzing in his throat chakra but didn’t know what it was. Eventually, when clients asked about someone who had passed, he was able to see and describe that person and the buzzing would become a strong vibration. Soon, those on the other side started talking through him to their friends and loved ones seated at Toney’s table.
Not everyone on the other side wishes to speak, however. While Toney is able to converse most of the time with whomever his client desires to connect, if they are not interested or able to do so, he will ask for help from a mutual friend or relative on the other side. “Oftentimes,” Toney says, “that extra boost of spiritual energy is all it takes to open the lines of communication, and then they won’t stop talking!”
